The Great Dorset Steam Fair takes place on 650 acres in Tarrant Hinton and attracts up to 200,000 visitors each year. Attractions include steam engine exhibits, a music festival, heavy Shire horses and even a few white-knuckle rides.
The fair aims to give visitors a nostalgic insight into the English way of life when steam power was in its heyday - in the late 19th and early-20th centuries. Each year a large collection of steam and vintage equipment is assembled. In total there are 200 working steam engines and 100 fairground organs at the show, together with around 2000 other working exhibits.
One of the highlights of the show is the old-time steam fair. Over 50 Showman's engines with their gleaming, twisted brass generate the light and power to run the old roundabouts and swingboats. Together with 100 organs, the funfair makes for a fascinating and entertaining spectacle, especially at night.
Beyond the steam, there are plenty more modern attractions, including some incredibly scary rides.
