Quieten the mind and pick up a new skill in one fell swoop at one of Scotland's many retreat hideaways. The Dhanakosa Centre is Buddhist in nature, but there's no need to be Buddhist to enjoy it.
Buddhism is a 2500 year-old spiritual tradition which started with the Enlightenment of Siddhartha Gautama - now referred to as Buddha. Enlightenment is often described as a state of "sublime spiritual awareness" - the human qualities of awareness and positivity developed to their highest level. The Buddhist tradition employs methods and practices which can help anyone attain the same state of Enlightenment as the Buddha: chief amongst them is meditation, and the Dhakanosa Centre can point the way.
Set amidst the glories of Scottish nature, a million miles away from city stress, those who run the show at this retreat centre are professionals when it comes to quietening the mind. Don't be put off by monkish appearances, there's no need to be Buddhist to go up for one of their weekend or week-long retreats. The menu to sign up with is fairly eclectic, if not creative: meditation is often teamed with other topics - photography, reflexology and Tai Chi to name but three. Please check the centre's website for details.
