Paramount Shrigley Hall Hotel, Golf & Country Club in Cheshire has a very positive attitude towards green tourism. The impressive 19th century country mansion endeavours to be as environmentally friendly as possible and as a result has a SILVER Award from the Green Tourism Business Scheme. Details of the award scheme are available at www.green-business.co.uk
The hotel is extremely energy efficient with its own combined heat and power energy system, which produces electricity from gas and this electricity is used to heat water.
80% of the hotel's water is spring water, which is continually flowing and they use their own sewage system with a reed plant to filter the water, so they use it, clean it and then put it back. The hotel is also in the process of installing a borehole to use as well.
The hotel's excellent 18-hole championship golf course is also environmentally friendly. The Head Greener is careful to ensure that no pesticides are used anywhere on the couse.
